After 3 months away from the beautiful Yankee campus near Boca Chica, I’m back, welcomed this morning by a brief, but intense, shower that has left the fields unusable. I got here yesterday around 1 p.m. and, except for the security guard, I was the only person here for a couple of hours. Some of the players arrived from Venezuela around 3:30, but most of the rest will get here sometime today.
Last week I was in Samana for 4 days, giving workshops on English Language Teaching to local English teachers. Everything went pretty well, I think, and I hope the participants can take some of the information I gave them and put it to good use in their own classrooms. The embassy put me up in a 5-star hotel, the Gran Bahia Principe Cayacoa, which was quite nice. On our trip up we ran into two extremely heavy downpours that all but forced us to stop the car. We had to ask our embassy driver to slow down more than a few times because of the limited visibility. I think we caught the outer edges of the bad storms that ravaged Haiti.
Anyway, I’m safe and sound back in baseball land with a lot of work ahead of me in the next few days to get ready for classes. I’m also going to try to find the time to post some photos of my recent trip to SE Asia, so look for those coming up. More later.
I’m so glad you’re home, hemispherically speaking. A lot of breath-holding up here as we go into a must win game tonite against the Indians ( :confused: where is Cleveland again ???) – you remember the Indians …. and that fellow Lofton …. geez … he’s good. Maybe more tomorrow …. so long as the game doesn’t go 11 innings again !!! :doze:
